Transcribe your speech into text online

Assistive technologies are great they help you to get a lot done in a short time.

Speech-to-text is a technology that enables you to identify patterns in sound waves and matches them to phonemes of speech to translate them to text. This means that you can talk to your device and it will understand and convert what you have said into text.

It is not only easier to talk than type, but it is also 3 times faster. A research study conducted at Stanford University placed two groups of individuals side-by-side.

They gave them over a hundred phrases and told the first two groups to type it into a smartphone using the on-screen keyboard while the second group was told to use speech recognition.

The study was conducted in both English, Mandarin, and Chinese. The researchers found that speech dictation was 3 times faster than typing in English and 2.8 times faster in Mandarin even when one accounts for the time it takes to make corrections.

The number of mistakes was significantly lower when using speech-to-text. The English error rate was 20.4% while the Mandarin error rate was quite high at 63.4% lower.

The Speech to text app provided to you by ShareTXT for FREE enables you to boost your productivity by quickly creating large volumes of high-quality content at scale.

How it works

The Speech to text app is very easy to use you can start using the app in 3 easy steps

  1. Click on "Start listening"
  2. Agree to allow the app to use your device microphone
  3. Start talking into your headphone or device microphone

When the application starts listening for you to speak, the status which is just below the button will change from "Not listening" to "Listening".

Also, the button will change from "Start listening" to "Stop listening" this enables you to stop the app from listening after dictation is complete.

After you start speaking, the application will keep on listening until after you stop speaking for a few seconds. It will then display what you have said as text in the input field.

If you stop talking for a while the application will assume that you have finished dictating and It will turn itself off.

You will be notified about this because the status of the application will change to "You were quiet for a while so voice recognition turned itself off. Click "Start listening" to resume". This means that the application is turned off and is no longer listening to speech input.

To continue dictating after it turns itself off, click on "Start listening" to pick up from where you left off.

Benefits of Speech to text

Speech-to-text applications in the past were not very good. Today with the advances in machine learning they have gotten much better.

Quick document turn arounds

Speech-to-text technology is the fastest method of text entry. Transcribing meeting documents is a time-consuming activity, speech-to-text will not only reduce the time you spend creating content it will enable you to create even more content and redirect save time and energy to more critical tasks.

Create better more engaging content

Most business writing is very formal this does not reflect the way that people interact in the real world. Assistive technologies such as speech-to-text enable authors to infuse their personality into their content, making it unique and different from the legal documentation that is prevalent. I don't know many people that love reading terms of service and privacy policies.

Improved accessibility

For many people with disabilities who struggle to type using conventional input or maybe as a result of injury, speech-to-text technology is a game-changer they will be able to crank content out just as fast as able-bodied individuals, maybe even faster.
